Until legislators figure out what a sex offender is (and it ain't this girl OR a 19 year old man who has consensual sex with his 17 1/2 year old girlfriend), people are not going to take the term seriously and the sentencing, parole and probationary rules are going to be a big joke. True sex offenders need to be kept away from polite society and the folks they offend - children, women, whatever.
Even Maureen Kanka, mom to Megan of Megan's Law agrees with me on the case of the girl who took nude photos of herself and posted them on the Internet. The girl's an idiot but NOT a sex offender. She only hurt herself.
When will the cops and lawmakers get it right? Yes, we need compassion, but I really want action here.

WHOM did she sexually offend via physical contact? NO ONE!
granted, there may very well be another criminal charge against her--a valid one--such as violating a law against under-age kids posting nude or sexual pictures of themselves on the internet, which should be a misdemeanor, but to classify her as a sexual offender along the same lines as a rapist or child molester?!

What is the legal standard about minors and nudity?I just watched a movie I got from a public library where a couple of kids took off all their clothes and went skinny dipping.The House of Spirits with Wynona Rider and Antonio Banderas, I think.(It was a great love story that takes place in the Pinochet years in Chile.)
Teens that send naked pix to one another should just get slapped with a misdemeanor like those fur people who protest naked in public.I thought the law was to hound sexual deviants, not sophomoric and juvenile pranks that can be offensive?
I don't know the legal standard - in this cyber age I am not sure this is a standard...that said, "House of the Spirits" by one of my favorite authors, Isabel Allende, is fantastic. She taught a class of mine briefly at University, so I know it well.
Of course they should learn a lesson that THIS STUFF is up there forever. They think it's a prank. But they are NOT sex offenders, who, by the way, are off the radar of Parole and Probation, reoffending and kidnapping all the damn time.
What a joke!I was at the Redondo Beach library recently.It's right across the street from Redondo Union high school.There was 15-16 year-old girl wearing some ultra-low-cut blue jeans that revealed the the crack of her ass half way down.She sat in the middle of the library mooning almost everbody and didn't seem to care.
So if somebody calls the cops on her and she is arrested for indecent exposure, she would someday have to register as a sex offender for baring half her ass?
