How often do I preface a post with "...now, I don't blog about politics, but..." - you see where I'm going? And how tempting was it to call this post "Spitz, Swallowz, Suckz"?

It's all about Governor Eliot Spitzer today and while I loathe the man, I don't see the big deal about his hiring of a call girl. Pols do it all the time. As one friend so eloquently put it - "guys in power are going to pay for it whether it's the wife, a hooker or a Lewinsky". That's his dumbass choice, but honestly, I am surprised how people are all "oh my" and Puritanical about it. Get real - men in power pay for (consensual) sex, end of story. Sex scandals bring down politicians all the time or at least taint their legacies. Hubris + power = aphrodisiac. This is the TRUE meaning of an "unfortunate sexual encounter", to borrow a well-worn phrase.

My issue with Spitzer, or rather my question, is why did he use his office Inter-webs and OFFICE PHONE to arrange for his tryst? Himself? Seriously, didn't he have some flunky, you know, the Chief of Staff of Debauchery to arrange these niceties for him? My goodness! My husband works for (insert large investment bank here). If he used his work phone to arrange for a hooker, he would be fired and quickly. Undoubtedly, Mr. Spitzer will continue his "Apology Tour 2008", resign and be brewing his second (third?) act shortly. He'll be just fine.

People love this story due to the hypocrisy of Mr. Crimefighter breaking the law so flagrantly and stupidly. This is like Jack McCoy on "L&O" getting caught breaking and entering. Somewhere, Dick Grasso is so cackling with glee, as well he should be.

I'll tell you one thing, though. Eliot had better watch himself because that Silda will cut a bitch. She takes crap from no one, especially not the father of her three girls. Steel Magnolia, all the way. She will not quietly leave the new eco-friendly Governor's mansion. (aside: did you all see that in "Domino"? Bless her heart!) Dina Matos, meet your new BFF.
