So, they're "over the moon" over the 17 year old Veep candidate's teen daughter's decision to keep her pregnancy with her equally young "husband to be"? Yep, she'll marry him if John McCain himself performs the ceremony on the campaign trail.
These same people - would they be "over the moon" if Bristol's high school basketball coach raped and impregnated her? The Evangelicals are pro-life, but according to their emails to me, also pro-rape. "Forgive, or you'll burn in hell, you slut, you whore!". But Bristol Palin, now there's stand up gal. Actually, I'm not judging and think she should do whatever she wants. Just surprised there are no condoms in Alaska. Being a teen mom is tough. I agree with Obama - the kids are indeed off limits.
I'm just saying. This is no one's business but that of the Palin family. Not even the Evangelicals, so I wish they'd keep their business to themselves and let Joel Osteen's wife continue to pitch hissy fits with her big diamonds on planes while her husband grins like a chipmunk. It's a family issue. It's also - seemingly - a trend. Teen pregnancy is the new black: "Juno", Jamie Lynn Spears, the girls of Gloucester High School. I can tell you, my very strict parents would have been apoplectic and not "over the moon" of a life of less promise, of opportunities cut short. But that matters not. What matters is how they've made a hero of this young girl.

I found your blog via cnn. I am most amused by the reaction of the religious right on this issue.
Why can't I shake the idea that if either of the Democratic candidates had a daughter in this situation, with the same intent to keep the child and marry the father, the religious fanatics on the right would be jumping up and down, pointing fingers and saying "See!! See what happens when a child is raised by liberals with no morals!"
There is only one thing wrong with this picture. It's call parenting. How can a mother be the vice president and care for 5 children one with down syndrome. Oh that's right now 6 children. Seems as Gov. of Alaska she's doing a great job or is she?
Ah, the Evangelicals. They terrify me. Have you seen the documentary Jesus Camp? Scary.
The whole thing is bizarre to me. They liked Sarah Palin because she has a son with Down's Syndrome. Now they LOVE her because her daughter got knocked up and is keeping the baby? Really? These people are so weird. Why is that anything to get amped up about? Makes me wonder if that's the sole reason McCain brought her on his ticket, because someone in this team knew that this would happen. He had to have known, before choosing her, that her daughter was pregnant. It has to be part of the plan.
P.S. There's condoms in Alaska. But it's Alaska. There's nothing better to do and it was probably too cold to go outside to buy them. You pick and choose your battles, I guess. /sarcasm
Anon must be a man to ask such a question. As a married mother of 2 daughters, I completed 4 years of college, a full time job, wife and mothering. And not one of my 'jobs' suffered.
I personally am against abortion. No matter what the situation, the child did not ask to be here. Google abortion and take a look at the photos, then come back and tell me that isn't a baby yet. Abortion is nothing more than legalized murder of an infant.
If it isn't a baby, you ain't pregnant.
Blog Goddess:
As a mother (and mother to be), I hear you. But your phrase "no matter what the situation" doesn't work for me. As a rape survivor, there is no way I would have carried any child that was a product of rape to term. I don't feel as though I could ever look at that child with the love he or she deserved.
The beauty of this country is in our ability to have opinions, whether male or female. And I would bet that Anon is probably a woman. I also cannot stand it when men are the ones picketing abortion clinics - I really don't feel like they have the right to decide for us either way, much like pro-life vs. pro-choice shouldn't be a political football. It will never be settled.
That's why I made the point - what if Bristol Palin were pregnant via a rape? Would you cheer on Sarah Palin's urging of her daughter to have the child then? At what point do we forget to care for those suffering for the sake of the pro-life cause?
I don't believe for a minute that Sarah Palin was as well vetted as the campaign said she was - had anyone gotten even a whiff of this situation there is no way a 44 year old governer from ALASKA with no federal government experience would have gotten onto the ticket. She doesn't have enough experience to be such a liability...and while I agree that kids and family is not a topic for campaign debate - it's out there and it will be talked about and it speaks to the decision making abilities of McCain and his advisors.
In addition, blog goddess - are you seriously suggesting that what any average parent does for a living compares even a little bit with the responsibilities that come with being the Vice President of the United States?
In college I lived around the corner from the VP mansion - Gore needed a motorcade to attend his son's soccer games.

I agree with you 100%. It also goes without saying that I implied that in NO WAY was Ms. Palin vetted thoroughly by McCain's team. This comes as total news to them. Troopergate, sure. Not a big deal. However, since that involves some level of domestic violence, I expect Joe Biden, who sponsored bills regarding violence against women, to wipe the floor with her.
While some people think she's a) great for the religious right, b) an appeasement for women voters, c) a replacement for Hilary, ergo, a historical choice or d) young, thereby giving pepaw McCain some youth cred, I think the choice is odd at best and disastrous at worst.
I respect Bristol's choice (and you KNOW it ain't hers), but I also think having the Vice Presidential daughter knocked up at high school graduation to be a tad unstatesmanlike and, very much a surprise to John McCain, no doubt.
Thanks for your dead on comments.
