Should Amanda Brumfeld be charged? I'll take off my "mom" hat for this one.

Billy Bob Thornton's estranged daughter, Amanda Brumfeld, was babysitting a 1-year-old girl who fell out of her playpen. She texted the mother about it. Saying the baby was fine (sort of the Natasha Richardson "walking and dying" syndrome maybe), Ms. Brumfeld called 911 2 hours later when the child became unresponsive.

Some say both the mother (who received the text and should have come home) and Brumfeld should be charged. Some say children fall all the time and Brumfeld really didn't have a way of knowing the child had blunt force trauma to the head. The baby died.

What do you think? I'm on the fence here since the Richardson tragedy. Of course, I would have rushed my child to the doctor immediately as a precaution, but I am not sure about the charges here. Am I wrong?

liz,

in light of the natasha richardson tragedy, the babysitter should have immediately called 911!

natasha had the legal and mental capacity to decline immediate medical care--the baby did not!

I agree with you totally - had to play "devil's advocate" on this one, but I mean, really. Anytime a baby falls in your care, you call 911! I almost called 911 the other day as I tried a new food for Leo and he started to break out into mild hives. One never knows and one best be safe!
