In life, we all need guilty pleasures to ease the stress of the day, especially during the holiday season, which, confession, I adore. But in reality, all the glittery pine cones, coordinated wrapping paper and stringing of popcorn doesn't mask the fact that many people feel extra pressure this time of year. Since I spend a lot of time out East this time of year, I like to walk on the beach, but it's getting a little chilly for that.
What do I like to do?
I abandon any and all highbrow entertainment, stringent health regimens (bad) and instead try to enjoy some of my guilty favorites:
1) The Wendy Williams Experience! - if you don't have this radio show in your market, you are missing out! Each day from 2pm to 7pm, Miss Williams can be found on my dial. I adore her! In New York, she's on WBLS 107.5 FM. Haaaayyyy!
2) Massages - from a, ahem, qualified therapist.
3) Online shopping - don't fuss with those crowds - almost everyone offers free shipping and there's a ton of time! Also, if you shop with GoodShop (www.goodshop.com), you can donate 3% of your purchase amount to your favorite charity - which should be STARS, right?
4) 6 am marathons of "Melrose Place" on SoapNet. Since Ava gets up a little later, I can usually squeeze in an episode or two. Nothing's better for the soul!
5) Desk Yoga - you don't need a full class. You can do yoga right in your chair and get great benefits of flexibility and stress relief.
6) Declare a "no news" day - turn off the computer/cable news and clear your mind. So many tragic stories which need our attention don't need to consume us daily. Take a break from it, especially if you're a sensitive type.
7) enjoy time with a child - it's the best stress buster!
