Once again - what is wrong with our legal system?

While not at ALL condoning any of her actions, Foxy Brown, who I believe had a successful career as a rapper a few years ago, was sentenced to one year in prison at - get this - Riker's Island. That's hard time in a hard place. And why? She violated probation that was the result of her having assaulted her manicurist(s). I repeat - not condoning violence at all; what she did was shameful. I am merely trying to put this into perspective. Here's what happened:

Foxy Brown was sentenced Friday to one year in jail for violating probation that stemmed from a fight with two manicurists in a New York City nail salon three years ago. "I'm not going to give you any more chances," Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson told the 28-year-old rapper. "I hope you turn your life around and never again have to stand in a court of law."

Here's why I am questioning the sentence - Miss Brown will be eligible for parole if she is a model prisoner in eight months - hardly a huge break from her one year sentence. Virginia's "good time" grandfather laws gave William Beebe a 10 year sentence with all but 18 months suspended and of course, he's getting out next Monday after serving just six months. For rape. Not smacking a manicurist.

Rapists who admit violent rape to Police and in writing, then cry "Wait, I didn't do that and I'm such a good person" and parade their AA friends around to the Judge? Six months. Raise your hand if that feels unfair to you.
