So, he has a job and a home and is wearing an electronic GPS monitor (ankle bracelet), so if he leaves the Commonwealth, we'll know. I breathed more easily today due to this not yet public information. It's really difficult to track this sort of thing, as I believe there's no benefit in going online and policing offenders. It can be harmful to the victim to become obsessed, so I won't be looking at this that often. It's probation's job to make certain the released inmate is following the guidelines of release.

I love smoothies. That's unfortunate, but everyone's entitled to a job. You'll recall my early "blender" posting about how I keep breaking them due to copious smoothie production. When you have eating issues due to panic or stress, smoothies can provide some much-needed nutrition and my own therapists have suggested it. This is why drinks like Ensure have such a powerful market share.
UPDATE: No longer at Smoothie King - you can read Ryan (the owner's) description of his company in the comments section, which is important. We still don't know the details of Beebe's hire or termination, or the application process. It has been suggested that I contact corporate or the offender's probation officer, Jeffrey Lenert. Honestly, I no longer care.

Omigod, he always has that "haunted" look in his eyes in mugshots!

This is the owner of the Smoothie King franchise referenced in your blog. William Beebe is no longer employed by our company. I was unaware of his sexual offense conviction.

Ryan:
Please know that we are huge fans of Smoothie King (although we don't have them up North). I am sorry to hear if Mr. Beebe has caused you any distress. If you would like, we can remove this blog post, but we assumed you wanted the world to know that your franchise did not support this sort of behavior.
We only came to know his employment via the DA's office and, subsequently, the Virginia Sex Offender Registry. All very public information.
Once again, the blog posting was only a reiteration of already public information and certainly not intended as a reflection on Smoothie King. Best in your endeavors,
Be well, Liz
Liz,
Thank you for your comments. The Smoothie King franchise system is a network of small business owners who care about the local community and are active participants in various charity organizations, school fund raising, and athletic events. The Smoothie King family has promoted health and wellness through nutrition and community involvement far before I became a member of the family. The positive product and community involvement I witnessed while living in Louisiana are what attracted me to this wonderful concept. The founders and long time franchisees have spent countless hours of dedication, effort, and resources building this positive image. I do not in any way want to detract from these efforts and only wish to bring positive associations with the brand. For this reason, I would like the blog post removed so there will be no possibility of a negative stigma for the founders, existing franchisees, and future franchisees, or the unraveling of the strong positive fiber which has been achieved.
Sincerely,
Ryan
Ryan:
Thank you for that wonderful description of your company. There is no stigma attached to you. I wonder how it came to your attention about Mr. Beebe. As it was national news, I assumed everyone knew. Perhaps a customer or coworker recognized him? Since he was just released September 13, it's pretty fresh, I suppose.
Any corporation that cares about people is great. Perhaps, at your next franchisee meeting, you may introduce your colleagues to a very fine charity, STARS. You can learn more about my case and the good that we are doing to help men, women and children who survive sexual assault, a devastating epidemic. As a survivor, I care deeply about educating the public that one can learn, grow and contribute despite the horror of the experience.
