Some fantastic being had the above to say about the case against Beebe - and it's rather unoriginal since I had seen this somewhere a long time ago - on Fark.com, I think. This was emailed to our STARS Foundation. Now, having said I do indeed have a gallows sense of humor, what can be said about this? The sender said perhaps I would have been less offended with this approach rather than a letter from Mr. Beebe.
What do you think? Funny or awful? I won't judge or bite you. I think it's terrible, but not "I'm going to have a panic attack and run to my therapist" awful. It just shows how completely out of touch folks are with the crime of rape. If anything, it pokes fun at the perp, no? Well, it's tasteless. Every pun intended.

um, no. it's not funny today; won't be funny tomorrow. There's having a sense of humor (which one of the things I love most about you) and then someone just missing it completely.
And the cake itself? it's awful and Barney-like. How upset would you be to have this as your birthday cake? I believe we deserve a mighty fine cake.
I do have a wicked sweeth tooth, and I'm not finding this sweet at all.
oh, I have a new blog.
xo
I totally agree, not funny at all - and yet, who's the sick person who took this much time to do this??????
I loathe Barney and I have a toddler. We deserve Jean-George Vongrichten chocolate lava madness for what we've lived through, no?
Yay! New blog! Everyone go to Marnie's blog!
Good god, how UTTERLY TACKY, to say the least! SHEESH!
Are we allowed to use profanity to show our disgust toward such things?
No, I do NOT find this funny at all! And I have a sweet tooth and a chocolate tooth!
Mario
M&M -
So you agree. Imagine me finding this (well, it was emailed to me - gack!). At this point, I allow profanity.
I SO hope this is not a trend.
Liz,
Some topics are simply not appropriate for humor, such as rape, child molestation, 9/11, etc.

Mario-
And yet, we have Ann Coulter, no? I hate writing her whole name, because now, she'll get a Google hit.
Of course, you would think some things are verboten - and yet, this is what I get and I thought I would share. Ugh!
Oh, Liz, why did you have to go and mention *her* name? *chuckles*
Mario
liz,
on a serious note, you might want to check out nbc nightly news tuesday evening, which is going to air a segment about women on college campuses who are stalked.
i would imagine that in some, if not many, if not most, of these cases, the women are being stalked for the purposes of being sexually assaulted.
i still can't get over just how potentially dangerous college campuses, of all places, can be for women to this day. it's unsettling, to say the least.

Stalking is an utterly serious campus crime - I think Security on Campus has some good stats on this one. What concerns me is that most colleges and Universities don't take these claims seriously - once again, Ivy Tower syndrome. Only when someone gets hurt do people take notice.
Virginia Tech - no one will say it, but Cho's first murder of the girl in her dorm had to be stalking related as he had a history of (among other things) stalking.
Campus crime - I've noticed an uptick lately in the news, if not the statistics - is something that disturbs me greatly. While everyone's running around talking about how the guys at Duke were wronged (they were), we are ignoring real crime on campus.
liz,
speaking of sweet tooth and chocolate tooth, i decided to take you up on your AMAZON book recommendation and bought SOUND MIND/SOUND BODY by david kirsch, becuz i have to learn to stop eating the bad carbs! intellectually, i *know* what i have to do--i just need inspiration to do it, and i think this book will provide that sorely needed inspiration!
thanx so much for the recommendation!

Dear Carbo:
It's tough - David takes no prisoners. He was my trainer for about a year and was responsible for whipping me back into shape after I had Ava. But if I saw one more protein shake, hard-boiled egg or turkey chili, I was gonna scream. Take it one day at a time, and have one cheat day.
It was awesome! Best book ever and he has a new one.
Dear Liz
I don't think this cake is funny a frankly I think the person who sent this is oh so tack and poor taste and poor judgement.I mean everyone love a good laugh but this is not it the need to realize how serious of a crime rape really is .This cake is just disgusting!!

Just came across this -- I doubt the person who made it meant it to be funny. Probably was made by a woman who wanted to show others just how stupid people are. I posted this picture on my website and the UVA Take back the night facebook page to illustrate just how asinine the University of VA is to recommend mediation in cases of rape. Which, by the way, is a violation of the Clery Act and Title IX. So, take this photo with a grain of salt and know that it is meant as a dig at the system, not the victim (Survivor). PS Watch for new stories about UVA's failure to comply with the Clery Act ....
