Thus, they shoot down a decision made by Lousiana in 2003. Thoughts? We think there's got to be something "better" than a life of relative comfort (it IS indeed for some career criminals) and three squares a day. Perhaps not execution, but something more. Something. Anything?

You read my mind, I just got this news alert too. I was pissed.
Cruel and Unusal punishment to give child rapists the death penalty?
I died the day I was raped when I was 7 by our neighbor, on my birthday, which happens to be tomorrow. This is really disappointing

liz,
i am opposed to the death penalty under any circumstances, but at the very least, it should be reserved only for first degree murder, and should never be imposed for a crime in which the victim didn't die.
i think it's a shame that america is one of the few industrialized countries in the world that still utilizes the death penalty.

I'm against the death penalty for child rapists because that penalty may cause some child rapists to decide they might as well murder their victims and because victims who don't want their rapists dead may not report.
If you are needing some good news, there is a great legal resource coming soon: National Child Protection Training Center. It will be opening this summer at Winona State University in Minnesota. The director, Victor Vieth, hopes this won't be the only center of it's type.
I like Mrs. Flinger's version of retribution here.
Oh, wow. I love Mrs. Flinger's blog! Love it.
And loved her version as well. Spot on.
