I don't look for this stuff - cops. Again. But still on the job, we think.

So, today brings a story of how two Creston, Iowa police officers allegedly raped a bartender, then said it was - everyone, all together now, CONSENSUAL! - then sort of kind of backtracked and now they are charged with sexual assault.

When the haters ask "What was she doing in a bar", at least we can all say "her job!". Note how many mouthpieces are speaking for the two accused (sort of like, "well, at least we're doing something about it")and also note how they want to slap a restraining order against the complaining witness. The Sherriff is particularly smooth, what with his being friends with the accused, no matter the outcome.

Am I crazy or is this going to end badly for all involved? It matters not to me what they do for a living. It does seem to matter to the system, the victim, the Judge, the town, the jury, though. Abuse of power is what rape is about and throwing in a badge can only intensify those feelings of untouchability.

UPDATE: Creston's own Chief of Police is one of the accused! Dayum.

UPDATE: Both guilty. Amen.

liz,

i think it is especially heinous when a rapist or molester is a cop becuz, as you pointed out, it is an abuse of authority, not to mention a violation of the public trust!
