This post is not to battle the death penalty or my stance on it. What I'm saying is that when death row inmates (or their advocates)get a hold of this bone, they rarely let it go and all that does is waste time and money and besmirch the memory of the victims, thereby upsetting their families and loved ones.
We all remember the case of Teena Brandon/Brandon Teena, immortalized by the movie "Boys Don't Cry". Brandon was living as a man trapped in a woman's body and was raped and murdered when her subterfuge was discovered and she tried to report the rape. Two of her friends were also killed. Her killer, John Lotter, is opposing the manner of death in his eventual execution for the crimes committed.
Whether it's lethal injection, electric chair or public flogging, I don't think it matters NOT because one is more painful than the other - we used hang folks, remember? - but because honestly, the victims never chose their own manner of death. I wish our Courts and taxes didn't get tied up with these kinds of cases and just move on with the decisions that were made, lawfully, at the time.
