Apparently, rape erases your ability to recall things, or so many defense attorneys would have us believe. Trauma actually can bring details into very sharp relief and the recall can be amazingly clear. The human mind will process trauma when it's ready or with professional help, something we discuss here with regularity.
So, a pedophile named James Kevin Pope is sentenced to over 4,000 years (wow, Texas!) for abusing 2 girls over 2 years. It's not clear - must do some digging - to find out the exact nature of Pope's offenses. We do know this much: a) there were over 40 incidents, b) there were photographs, c) the victims testified (isn't it nice to see teens testifying and getting the justice they deserve?).
What I love most about the article (besides the quote that Pope will be "eligible for parole in 3209") is the Rick Alley's (the defense attorney) truly feeble statement to the press. Seriously, has he defended a rapist before? He says of these brave young girls:
"If it was as traumatic as they indicate, they would be able to give you (specific dates and times of the incidents). Simply because it's shocking doesn't make it true," Alley said." Oh lawdamercy. I think this is a typo and Alley meant to say "would not be able to give you". Either way, he's reaching. Sooo..his client is innocent if the dates are incorrect? I know that one personally. Rhonda even filed a motion to dismiss all charges as the date of my attack was in question.
