"The victim should not have the burden to generate evidence for the command,"

The post title sums it up. In this case, it has to do with the staggering epidemic of sexual assaults in the military. Shockingly, the Pentagon ordered the Army's top expert on sexual assault, not to show up at the hearings, despite a subpoena.

Above. The. Law. Army=universities=boy scout troups=churches=silence=more victims. The victims should not have the burden to prove it indeed. Someone in power needs to take some damn responsibility and investigate. Do the right thing.

Isn't it time we had hearts and stopped the madness? How many more lives ruined? I read here that 29% of female enlisted soldiers reported being raped. I want to hear from those who feel this is wrong and it's part of the culture and it should be stopped. Please come here and post your story if you have served in the military and have been raped. It's anonymous and we care.

Said one survivor: "He still comes after me in my dreams." Enough said. I know that dream. Many of you do. We are sleepless and dreamless; lying here with the lights and the television on, Xanax on the nightstand, earbuds with meditations and white noise plugged in, sleep masks at the ready, knives under our pillows. Hypervigilance, it's called. Tell me I'm wrong.

A big thank you to Mary Lauterbach, mother of the late Maria Lauterbach for testifying. With that said, I have my first meeting with Congress Monday to introduce legislation in my home state, and, hopefully, the nation. Never mind that a Congressman's son is one of the main witnesses in my case. They can figure it out and follow their hearts and minds. Fingers crossed that someone on the Hill listens. This is the first of many meetings and the reason I began this journey.

liz,

good luck on Capitol Hill on monday! i'll definitely cross my fingers for you!

hopefully, the fact that they're taking the time to hear you out means that they'll take whatever you say seriously and take the appropriate and necessary legislative action! i realize that may sound incredibly naive, but it's something to hope for! you never know when congress may surprise you and do the right thing!

let us know how it goes!

btw, i made a mistake and posted a similar message about this to the envelope icon, so you'll get this basic message twice! for some reason, when i clicked on "comments", it wouldn't go thru, and i thot you had changed the posting procedures! sorry about the mistake!

again, good luck to you! you're not alone! our hearts are with you!
